Every weekend in the Premier League brings a new story. But one tale this season has caught attention for all the right reasons.
It is about an English striker who many thought had played his last international game long ago.
Week after week, he keeps scoring. Each goal feels like a message, a reminder that experience still matters. The calls for his England return are growing louder.
On Saturday, the Brighton striker found the net again, taking his tally to six league goals this season. Among English players, only Burnley’s Jaidon Anthony comes close, and he has four.
Accoring to talkSPORT, for England manager Thomas Tuchel, the first-choice forward remains obvious.
Harry Kane is in extraordinary form, with 22 goals already this season for Bayern Munich. But behind him, there is uncertainty.
Ollie Watkins, the hero of Euro 2024’s semi-final, has struggled since. Ivan Toney has not featured since his move to Saudi Arabia.
Marcus Rashford and Jarrod Bowen have filled central roles for their clubs, but they are not natural strikers. Injuries to Callum Wilson, Dominic Solanke, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have ruled them out.

That leaves Danny Welbeck standing tall again. At 34, the Brighton forward has surprised many with his sharpness, work rate, and consistency.
Wellbeck’s last England appearance came in 2018, yet his performances now have forced people to talk.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler even hinted that Tuchel would know what to do.
“Again it’s not my decision,” he said. “I’m happy he’s in my team. I’m sure the other German will make the right decision.”
Former striker Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT that age should not matter. “You’re there on ability and merit,” he said.
“If you’re going to win a tournament and Welbeck could play a part, of course you’d take him.”
Alan Shearer agreed on Match of the Day. He praised Welbeck’s hard work, movement, and defensive effort.
“He deserves it,” Shearer said. “He’s having a fabulous season and seems to be getting better.”
England will face Serbia and Albania next month in their final World Cup qualifiers. And if form is the deciding factor, Danny Welbeck might just wear the Three Lions once again.
