Chelsea star revealed as Premier League's worst driver

A Chelsea star has landed himself in trouble again. A luxury car, a busy motorway, and a moment of careless speed have pushed him back into the spotlight.

The scene unfolded on the A3 Esher Bypass in Surrey. A white Lamborghini was caught on a dashcam, weaving between lanes and cutting across traffic at alarming speed.

Other drivers watched in shock as the supercar used the hard shoulder to overtake.

According to prosecutor Rabbi Khan (via The Sun), the driver ignored warning signs and showed no indication before changing lanes.

“It was dangerous driving in a 50 mph zone,” Khan told the court. “He used the hard shoulder at speed and risked serious harm.”

District Judge Julie Cooper was far from impressed. She warned the player that his behaviour could inspire deadly imitation.

“You realise young people look up to you,” she said. “They cannot afford cars with the same safety features. If they try to copy you, they may die. You must act responsibly.”

The defendant arrived at Staines Magistrates’ Court in all black, guarded by two bodyguards. He spoke only to confirm his name and address. The hearing was brief but damning.

He avoided prison this time. The court handed him 300 hours of unpaid community work, an 18-month ban, and orders to pay £85 in costs plus a £114 surcharge.

But the ruling hardly matters—he is already banned from driving until May 2027 for previous offences.

Only then did the name behind the story come out. The man in question was Wesley Fofana, the £75 million Chelsea defender. At just 24, this was his ninth driving offence.

He had already collected 47 penalty points and two separate disqualifications. His solicitor Imogen Cox said he was “deeply sorry” and had learned a valuable lesson. She said:

“There is no excuse for his driving that day.”

Since joining Chelsea from Leicester in 2022, Fofana has been plagued by injuries, starting only two Premier League matches this season.
