Arsenal survived a major scare in the FA Cup fifth round as they edged past Mansfield Town with a narrow 2–1 victory. Mikel Arteta rotated heavily and even handed starts to two academy teenagers, but the performance proved far more uncomfortable than expected.
The League One hosts started with energy and intensity, causing early problems for a disjointed Arsenal side that struggled to settle in a new formation. The Gunners eventually broke the deadlock when Noni Madueke produced a superb strike from the edge of the box.
However, Mansfield refused to fade. Will Evans punished a defensive mistake shortly after the restart to level the match and briefly raise hopes of a giant killing. Arsenal eventually relied on quality from the bench as Eberechi Eze blasted home the decisive goal to secure progress to the quarterfinal.
Player Ratings
Goalkeeper
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 7/10
Kepa endured a surprisingly busy evening. His distribution looked uncertain on the difficult pitch, but he produced several important saves to prevent Mansfield from taking the lead.
Defenders
Marli Salmon – 6/10
A mixed evening for the young defender. He showed confidence early on but his misplaced pass led directly to Mansfield’s equaliser.
Cristhian Mosquera – 6/10
Mosquera struggled against Mansfield’s direct approach. He looked uncomfortable in several duels and failed to stop Evans during the equalising move.
Riccardo Calafiori – 6/10
A shaky start defined his night. Calafiori improved slightly when shifted wide but never fully controlled the defensive line.
Midfielders
Noni Madueke – 8/10
Madueke delivered the decisive attacking spark. His brilliant strike opened the scoring and completely changed the rhythm of the match.
Christian Nørgaard – 8/10
Nørgaard provided composure in midfield. He controlled possession well and helped stabilise Arsenal during Mansfield’s aggressive pressing.
Kai Havertz – 6/10
Havertz struggled to influence the game. Mansfield’s midfield pressed him constantly and limited his ability to create chances.
Gabriel Martinelli – 7/10
Martinelli added pace on the left flank and supplied the assist for Madueke’s opener. His final decision making, however, lacked sharpness.

The 16 year old academy graduate impressed throughout the match. Dowman drove forward confidently and created Arsenal’s most dangerous moments in open play.

Match Analysis
Arsenal’s rotated lineup lacked rhythm and cohesion, particularly during the opening hour. Mansfield exploited that uncertainty with aggressive pressing and direct attacking play. The Gunners struggled to control transitions despite dominating possession.
Ultimately, individual quality proved decisive. Madueke’s opener and Eze’s powerful strike highlighted the difference between the two sides. Christian Nørgaard’s control in midfield also helped Arsenal regain composure late in the match.
The performance will concern Arteta, but progression to the FA Cup quarterfinal keeps Arsenal’s pursuit of multiple trophies firmly alive.
