Real Madrid are rarely far away from transfer speculation. The Spanish giants are constantly linked with some of the biggest names in world football and this season has been no different.
Midfield reinforcements have been a particular talking point. Since Toni Kroos stepped away, there has been a feeling that Los Blancos could look to add more quality and depth in the centre of the park.
One name that has consistently surfaced in recent months is Dominik Szoboszlai. The Liverpool midfielder has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, especially amid uncertainty surrounding his long-term situation at Anfield.
Now, comments from within the Real Madrid dressing room have only added another layer to the narrative.
While speaking to Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, Vinicius Jr was asked to name his best friends in football outside of Real Madrid. The Brazilian forward immediately mentioned Szoboszlai.
“I talk a lot with Szoboszlai,” Vinicius said. “We met when we were younger.”
He even joked that the Liverpool midfielder had reached out regarding his personal Nike boots.

Of course, friendships between elite players are common. Szoboszlai has previously interacted with Vinicius publicly on social media and has praised his stance against discrimination in La Liga. Earlier this season, he even mimicked the Brazilian’s signature celebration.
However, the timing is interesting. Szoboszlai has been linked with Real Madrid throughout the campaign. His international coach Marco Rossi recently claimed that the Hungarian’s “one dream” has always been to play for Los Blancos.

Vinicius also revealed in the same interview that he had contacted Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe before their moves to Madrid, joking that he had “acted as their agent.” That admission will inevitably spark further discussion.
That being said, any deal appears complicated. Szoboszlai remains under contract at Liverpool until 2028 and is regarded as one of the key figures in their long-term plans.
It remains to be seen whether this is simply friendly banter or something more substantial. For now, it adds another intriguing twist to an already persistent transfer rumour.
